Project: Smosh Summer Games: Class of 2005
Role: Designer
Overview:
Smosh Summer Games: Class of 2005 is a fun series of crossover events where Smosh Games and Smosh Pit team up! It’s the sixth Summer Games, and the last one we saw back in 2019. Smosh decided to bring the series back years later, and they picked the theme of Class of 2005 to celebrate the launch of Smosh on YouTube in 2005 and all the nostalgic vibes.
Design Approach:
I wanted to pay tribute to the franchise's history while bringing it back with the same wild energy and heart that fans adore. As the sixth game of the series, the design needed to feel both nostalgic and purposeful, celebrating Smosh's 2005 YouTube debut without looking old. I started with the logo, making sure it looked like previous Summer Game lockups to keep the brand strong and the visuals consistent. I added a paper plane icon as a fun way to remember school days and the DIY spirit that made early Smosh so special. I then used this identity for thumbnails and video assets, creating a bold, high-contrast system that mixed early-2000s academic themes with the high-energy competition style. This system is flexible and works well for different teams, challenges, and crossover moments, while still being instantly recognizable in the feed.
